GLOSSYBOX March 2013

Glossybox March 2013

Following my review of this months Birchbox I thought it only right I complete a review of the Glossybox I received this month.

Before I go into this months offerings, I seen many negative posts on Facebook recently about this box. Apart from the February 2013 box ive been pretty pleased with the items I have received, theres always something Im wanting to try out.

First Impressions, as always Glossybox have wonderful presentation my delivery man knows how excited I get when this is being delivered a couple of times he has still been stood waiting for my signature when im opening the packaging!
I am not normally a major fan of the news letter you get with Glossybox, well im not extremely against it but I do feel Birchbox has a better magazine included. Glossybox should include a bit more information, especially about new brands or items that are included if they are fairly unknown. I feel this would make it more attractive and give the new brands a boost.
This month I was impressed with the “My little traveling book” Included, i’ll be honest, im not well traveled unless you include a trip to Tenerife and Majorca that is. But I do like to look at other countries especially those that provide us with Fashion and leading brands!
The book shows things I would want to know if I were in a fashion capital such as the top 3 beauty stores or top 3 bars to visit. It has even made me want to go to a couple of the places. France definitely, its just beautiful from everything ive seen!
There are also stickers included with the book which is quite cute. To be honest I get the feeling my son will attack these when we have a crafty afternoon.

The theme this month is “City Chic” the idea of being able to go from the office to a bar and look pretty dam fine!
The items go well with the theme, a classic red nail varnish, a red lip stain, perfume, hair spray and a multi purpose moisturiser.

The items…..
“Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Skin Protectant” This sits in the City Chic theme well as its as much a multi tasker as Vaseline is. 8 hour skin protectant can be used on anything from sand paper elbows to taming those unruly brows in the loos before you leave work. I dont know many people that are not a fan of this product. Ive used for many years so great to have a sample size for travel. This retails at £25 for 50ml so I value the 7ml sample at around £3.50.
“Nails INC in St. James” to buy this sample size its £5 alone so this sample alone is half the cost of your box. The colour is a pillar box red as the glossy news letter states, its a very summery colour that would look great at both work and out and about. The shade has a pop of colour that has a hint of pink in its undertones. It had great staying power (granted i did layer the Nails INC Caviar topcoat over it) and looked lovely on even after endless amounts of washing up!
Next is “Juicy Couture, Couture La La perfume” I LOVED this perfume, i think i have now used the entire vial so a purchase may be necessary. It is a floral sent, with a hint of musk and woody undertones. The sent as great but I dont think that Glossybox should count this as a luxury sample, this is something you could get free in a department store and whenever ive asked for a sample of a perfume ive always been given more than 1 to take away.
Leading onto “TREsemme Salon Finish Extra Hold Hairspray” makes sense that a hairspray should be included in a City Chic theme, at the very least after work if going straight out you want to freshen your hair a little, tip your head upside down spraying lightly will add some volume to hair that has flattened during the day? Taming flyways if creating a sleek ponytail before you leave the office loos? The product its self was OK nothing to rave about. My hair felt a little greasy after using but then I do have fine hair so this is a common problem for me. It spray was easy to brush out which is always a plus in my opinion. Provided was 100ml sample which I found on the net for £1.99p
Finally my favourite item “Jelly Pong Pong Lip Blush” the full size product value of £12 was provided and I have to say was the perfect red for my lips which didn’t clash with my red hair. A great product to save applying to freshen your look on the way out of the office door.
It had good staying power and my lips also felt moisturised. This lip stain is a berry red colour. I am a fan of Jelly Pong Pong already, I love the venus eyeshadow which is basically balls of eyeshadow, one colour on the outside and when you crush them you have a completely different colour inside. My fav shade is Immortal, the outer layer is Purple (orthough the side describes it as black) and the inside is a bright pink with a pearliesnt finish.

Id value the contents of this box around £22.49p which gives you a saving of £9.55p on the cost of the Glossybox with the p+p included. I have not included a cost for the perfume as I feel it should be and would be a freebie if you picked up else where.

Final thoughts, I liked the box, liked the theme behind it and will be carrying on my subscription next month if only to find out the theme!

Dr Nick Lowe Anti Blemish Glossybox

Dr Nick Lowes Anti Blemish Glossybox

This morning I have received the special Glossybox Flash Box. I placed the order last week after receiving an email from Glossybox advertising this and an Anti Age box.

Well its obviously to soon to give a full review of this set. I am going to try it out for a good four weeks and report back.

Included in the box is the “Purifying Foaming Cleanser” full size 150ml value £10.49 it claims to be gentle and effective without disturbing the natural moisture levels. I tried it out this morning and I did not find it left my skin tight or red at all. The foam was light and felt like it slightly mattified my skin once I dried it.

There is the full size “Oil Control Day Cream” 50ml value £15.49 this claims to reduce surface oils pores and refine the skins texture. On the packaging it also states 89% of users saw a reduction in their pores (got to be a plus!)
When I tried this out this morning the cream appears alot more rich compared the the moisturisers i tend to use. Ive not put any makeup on today but its been around 5 hours and ive completed a fair amount of house work and rein acted Kung Foo Panda with Ethan and I cant feel any oil on my face so I think I could really grow to like this.

And finally there is a full size “Anti Blemish Spot Gel” retails £9.49 for 15ml. This advises it has targeted instant action! Ive not seen any difference in my brand new larger than boils that I discovered this morning however, they dont feel as angry or tender as they usually would.

So to round up im impressed with this box, if I had popped into boots I would of paid £35.47 and these have not been included in the current boots 3 for 2 offer so that would of been the paid price. Also I would not of received it beautifully packaged including a Dr Nick Lowe box!
I paid a total of £12.95 (includes p + p) a grand saving of £22.52!!!! If you have blemishes and thinking of trying something new from just first impressions I suggest to give this ago before they sell out!

Urban Decay THEODORA

Well as soon as I heard Urban Decay were doing The great and powerful Oz palettes I knew the Theodora palette was the one for me.
I much prefer darker shades and with currently having red hair the other Urban Decay palette Glinda didn’t have the colours I found appealing.

First impressions….. Awesome!!! The packaging is great and includes a how to copy Theodora’s look.

Above pictured is the “get the look” card from the Theodora palette.

The palette is also reusable so you can swap or replace eyeshadow’s which is great for on the go.
Included is also the Glide On Eyeliner in Zero (basically black) and Theodora Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Colour (a bright red)

The shades I loved, I wore them 5 days out of 7 last week. “Broken” a cream satin shade that blended really well into my skin and smoothed out softly. The colour stayed put all day which I find many lighter creamy shades tend to disappear into my skin even with primer.
“Beware” is a matt warm yet soft brown shade which blended amazingly and suited my skin tone well. When I was unable to find my contour powder early this week I substituted with this shade and it worked for me.
“Bewitch” is a darker satin brown. I found this shade more difficult to blend however this may be as have a pale skin tone and the colour does really pop out. The pat then blend method worked well for this shade.
“West” a deep metallic red/brown with a slight shimmer. I found this was easier to blend into the lash line and the edge of my eye compared to blending Bewitch.
“Spell” is two colours in one pan and holds a gold and black shimmer shadow. This reminds me of a bee or wasp maybe? (Could be the fact disney’s The Hive is on the the background for the kids)
Finally there is “Jealous” again two colours in one pan both more pearlescent than shimmer, one is more a lime green and the other a deeper grassy green shade. Both of these blend beautifully together  and I find really go well with my red hair.
The” Theodora Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Colour” I could not bring myself to take a picture of. This colour was to bright a cherry red colour, where as I find blue undertones in a red lippy suit me much better. The colour once applied does have a glossy shine without feeling to heavy on your lips. I did find however it did not stay put for long there was alot of transfer.

The Glide on eyeliner in “Zero” is Urban Decays classic black colour. I have always been a fan of UD eyeliners so its always great to have a travel size for the makeup bag.

As a round up im very happy with this purchase. Ive enjoyed using the palette, I like that there is more than one “bad witch” look that can be achieved and I also love that when I have used up every last ounce of the eye shadows I can replace them as I love the case alone!!!
Now just to watch the movie…..

BIRCHBOX March 2013

BIRCHBOX March 2013

This is the first Birchbox I have ordered to be honest when I had seen it released this month i was really hoping for a Beauty Blender which unfortunately was not included in my box.

My first impressions? Well i ordered the box on the 13th March and it arrived a week later.
I did quite like the box, its brown with pink metallic writing. To be honest i can be a sucker for presentation, an item just appears to do the job better if I think its pretty!
Inside the brown box there is a pink drawstring bag that holds the contents which im sure ill be able to reuse at some point if not for myself I can put the kids puzzle pieces from broken boxes in them.
I did really like the magazine that comes with it. It had much more info that the newsletter you get from Glossybox, there were more how to’s like using the Laura Geller liner and using the Beauty Blender.
I also liked the theme Role Models however I cant help to feel the items could of been a bit more related to hero products.

The items, well ive tried them all out now first up the chocolates, both me and my husband demolished them in seconds but for Lindt Chocolate Truffles what can you expect?

The Molton Brown Valbonne Fragrance was just not for me. The sent was very over powering and as much as I quite like Molton Brown as a whole if this was the first time I had experienced their products

I think it would of deterred me from re entering their store. I found the sent quite citrus with a deeper leathery heady sent as it settled into my skin. It gave me a head ache.

RMK Cleansing Balm i have really enjoyed. I have begun a mini collection of cleansing balms which currently id say im close to picking a favourite but this is up there in the final pickings. This is  rose sented yet not to (dare i say it) granny floral. The sent was delicate. I removed most my makeup before using this, massaged over damp skin and let it sit there for a good minute. I then used a muslin cloth to remove. This balm claims to be for mature skin, I have oily its not aggravated a break out, caused a sebum slide on my face or even caused red patches. I was very impressed with this product! The only down side I would be holding off a purchase until I see a pretty good offer.

Next up La Slutane De Saba Body Lotion This product to me smelt just like Johnson’s Talc! I loved it! The lotion left my skin soft and not feeling tight of dry the next day. This body lotion contains Argan oil which I felt helped the lotion sink in well leaving no sticky feeling when putting on my Pjs. When looking to purchase this product in the UK i could not easily find a stock list. This must be fairly new to the UK I would like to see some more of their range.

Ive tested Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream everywhere, on my elbows, lips, knees and Kara’s (my 11 month Daughter) bottom. The sent is slightly menthol it did sink in better than Elizabeth Ardens eight hour cream but I do feel is a little pricey for £19.50 for 70g. I am also not a fan of the idea the full size bottle is in a tub. The sample is a tube and I just feel is a little more hygienic with a product that I would properly go through dry skin phases of using. Kara’s bottom? I give a fair result for this it acted as a good barrier cream. No rashes in site.

I was happy to see a sample of Sanctuary 30 Day Thermal Transformation Mask I have already tried this out once before and very quickly forgot about it so was unsure whether this was of any interest for me. But I did enjoy the mask, I love a warming mask as I feel its getting just that little bit deeper into my pores and getting all those nasties that want to become raging spots out! I think this could possibly be useful for my acne scars as it claims to plump and repair the skins texture.

And finally my favourite item of the box Laura Geller Inkwell Waterproof Gel Liner I can happily say since I tried this product I have used it every day. Its a solid black has better staying power than Mac’s Fluid line and can be easily smudged before it sets into a smoky eye look. The brush is great to, i tend to not to use the applicators that come with Makeup products as they tend to be useless. But this brush is good quality and very fine for doing a great cats eye. I prefer it to the one that comes with Clinique’s brush on cream liner. I found the bristles kept falling out of that brush.

Its a great quality liner, im very impressed with the results!

All in all I have to say im impressed with the quality of the box, the size of the samples and the use of both well known and more up and coming brands. I will be purchasing next months box!
